The Northbridge Mentoring Partnership was founded in 1997 by school counselors and social workers who had a vision ofproviding caring adults as ‘big brothers’ and ‘big sisters’ to needy children in ourcommunity. They noticed that the childrenthey worked with every day were in need ofa positive role model that could bring guidance, security and a stable relationship into their lives.

Today, more than 8 years later the program is a huge success.  There are over twenty-five children enrolled in the program with 10 more matches expected by June 1, 2005. All of our children come from the Northbridge School System, and more than half of our mentors are Northbridge teachers and staff. WCC’s Brett MacGowan and Kristy Vires are also mentors, and many other dedicated community members have volunteered. We are very proud of all who have come forth and donated their time and energy to make this program a success.  The mentors are the backbone of our program.

The Northbridge Mentoring Partnership - a collaboration between the Northbridge Public Schools and the Whitin Community Center- matches trained, caring adult mentors with school-age Northbridge youth in need of a caring friend. All matches are supervised and supported by the clinical staff of the NMP. While we support matches with free or subsidized passes and discounts to area recreational sites, mentors are encouraged to act as a resource ‘broker’ rather than a resource ‘provider’.
